About you:

As Media and Comms Manager, you will be a natural leader and an incredible story-teller who has a “nose for news”.

This role requires a seasoned and strategic communicator who understands the nuances of a complex organisation, and can plan, create, and execute communications that will engage our audiences and stakeholders, influence and achieve external goals while securing the support of internal colleagues.

What you will do:

  • Central point of contact and to facilitate Media & Communications requests from a range of stakeholders internally and externally.
  • Leading day-to day core media function responsibilities and delivery of responding to and managing media inquiries while also leading the process of strategic media planning/execution.
  • Work on strategic communications to actively promote the organisation and its activities, and engage and connect with the local community
  • Identify stories which are newsworthy for television, print, radio and online media outlets and prepare media releases and visual content to support the placement of stories.
  • Providing strategic advisory to senior leadership on media and reputation matters including provision of advice to the business on appropriate media strategies and reputation, issues, and crisis management.
  • Building, collaborating and influencing strong internal and external relationships in support of the function and work with cross-functional teams to deliver high quality communication.
  • Developing and building strategic media relationships, including key journalists and influencers
  • Prepare spokespeople for interviews and develop key messages for approval
  • Assist in the preparation of news releases, speech notes, talking points and briefing material
  • work collaboratively with all media partners
  • Provide strong leadership, creating and nurture a high-performance team with the ability to succeed and flourish in a fast-paced, complex environment.

 What you’ll need:

  • To be successful in this role, you will have experience in working within Government frameworks, understand their processes and procedures and bring exceptional stakeholder engagement and reputation management skills and proven experience
  • Deep familiarity with the APAC media landscape and a proven track-record managing press and dealing with the Media
  • Exceptional editorial and copy writing, researching, editing and proofreading skills and a passion for producing engaging content.
  • Knowledge of current and emerging trends Nationally and Globally, issues, risks and opportunities and how these apply
  • Proven track record in managing complex communication including understanding risk, crisis and issues; dealing with reactive media issues; and managing stakeholder relationships to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Demonstrated highly developed interpersonal skills including the ability to negotiate, be persuasive and develop trust, and manage a variety of internal and external stakeholders across all levels and from varying backgrounds.
  • Strong understanding of changing media landscape and desire to partner with marketing to tell ’the story’ through various channels
  • The ability to clearly articulate and defend media recommendations and results to team members and management
  • Ability to be creative, innovative and flexible
  • Well-developed sense of urgency and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to operate under pressure and keep a calm cool head. 

Bonus points:

  • Strong understanding of government, particularly ministerial portfolios the relationship between federal, state and local government.
  • A highly engaged ‘right’ brain, to drive great creative thinking on media
  • Strong understanding of changing media landscape and desire to partner with marketing to tell ’the story’ through various channels
