TAKE A WALK, TALK THE TALK AT INAUGURAL ANIMAL WELFARE EVENT
Townsville animal lovers are being called to take a walk, and talk the talk at the inaugural Angel-Paws Pet Walk and Pledge on 19 May 2019 at Sherriff Park, Mundingburra.
The Angel-Paws Pet Walk and Pledge is an animal lover’s get together which includes a 2.5 km return walk with their dogs between Sherriff Park and Aplin’s Weir, followed by a public commitment to all of their pets.
Angel-Paws Manager, Larissa Huxley said the event aims to encourage the community to celebrate our furry friends, and to make a lifetime commitment to our pets.
“Angel-Paws has seen a huge increase in numbers of animals coming into our care over the past twelve months”, Ms Huxley said.
“We believe this event will help to encourage responsible pet ownership in our community, to help reduce the number of unwanted animals.
“Local businesses and community groups have come on board and will be showing or selling their wares during the morning.”
“We’re very excited that Angel-Paws’ founder, Ayla Watt, will be attending the event to lead the pledge.”
President of the charity group, Clayton Cook, said that the Pet Walk and Pledge will raise awareness of the plight of rescue dogs and cats in North Queensland.
“Funds raised from the event will be put straight to work, helping the organisation to meet the costs involved in fostering and rehoming displaced and unwanted animals within Townsville and the surrounding areas”, Mr Cook stated.
“Angel-Paws has approximately 150 animals fostered at any one time, and our incredible volunteers work tirelessly behind the scenes to care for and find loving homes for them.
“Vet costs alone for the animals in our care over the past month have reached $20,000. We can’t do it without the amazing support from our community.”
“If you love your pets, please come and support the critical community work our volunteers do. You can bring your dogs, or come along without.”
The Angel-Paws Pet Walk and Pledge kicks off from 8.30am on 19 May 2019, with registrations either pre-purchased or available on the day at Sherriff Park, Love Lane, Mundingburra. Tickets are $20, which also includes an electronic certificate of the Pledge participation and an Angel-Paws wrist band. Tickets can be pre-purchased from

About Angel-Paws:
Angel-Paws Inc. is a non-profit organisation of volunteers who give animals that society reject a second chance at life.
Backed by a passionate and talented group of people behind the wings, animals in care are nurtured and taught to be outstanding pets for new families. The organisation matches pets with people, making sure that their next home is a forever home.
Angel-Paws Inc. is based in Townsville and takes in animals from across North Queensland.
Angel-Paws works with veterinary clinics and foster carers who volunteer their time and effort to bring the animals to full health and well-being, before finding them a new home.
Angel-Paws Inc. is a no kill rescue organisation. Every animal that comes in to care stays with the organisation until a forever home is found.
“All animals have a story to tell, and if you listen long enough their message will be heard.”
