Mackay leads NQ in jobs during Covid

Mackay a job ads positive

Recent Seek Job Ads information compiled by TP Human Capital shows Mackay region is a job creation hotspot in Queensland.

Trades, Health and Mining are net positive job ads industries.

Managing Director of TP Human Capital Townsville said, “ Mackay job ads have performed the best in North Queensland throughout Covid, Mackay job ads have consistently been above Townsville and Cairns.”

Mr Cook Said,” During the pandemics worst Queensland months from April to June, Mackay has had 30-40% more jobs vacant than both Townsville and Cairns.  Mackay jobs advertised on Seek have also grown from around 900 to almost 1300,  thats around a 40%  improvement from Covid restrictions in early April 2020 to mid August. Those sectors that are performing well include Trades, Health and Mining.  Mackay has advertised 300 to 370 new job advertisements per week since June to date.

Mr Cook said “ Mining engineering, maintenance and operations jobs had improved despite the falling price of coal.  There have been several new mines that have developed and other mines have increased their staffing levels in maintenance.  In the health sector, Allied health positions had improved including physiotherapy and psychology positions.  Of the trades Fitters and Turners, Auto Mechanics and welders job ads were solid.

Regional Economist Colin Dwyer said Mackay Region economy has a healthy level of significant projects and is better placed than many other regions in Australia to recover quicker from Covid restrictions.  There are still many challenges ahead.  We still have concerns for when Jobkeeper is adjusted, Banks mortgage arrangements change and any disruption to business from the looming local and US elections.
